Your commitments key to Development of FULafia, V-C tells Women

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has expressed his appreciation to the female staff of the University for their valuable contributions to the success of his administration.

He described the female staff as worthy partners in the development of FULafia.

The vice-chancellor spoke when he hosted the female members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian University (SSANU), Federal University of Lafia Branch, in his office, recently.

Abdul Rahman said that SSANU and other unions in the University were important to his administration, pointing out that without them, he would not have achieved the successes he has recorded in the last one year.

While appreciating the SSANU women for the visit, Abdul Rahman charged them to make themselves available to the services of the University, saying, "I believe that what a man can do, the best of it, sometimes, comes from women."

He said that his administration would continue to promote gender equality to achieve a balanced working system and avoid gender conflicts.

"I will continue to carry women along in the task of developing the University," he said.

The vice-chancellor assured the SSANU women of the Management's support during the forthcoming International Women's Day celebrations.

Speaking earlier, the SSANU Women Leader of the University, Mrs. Becky Kajo, said that the SSANU women were in the vice-chancellor's office to congratulate him on his achievements in the last one year in office as the third vice-chancellor of the University.

The Women used the occasion of the visit to inform him of their plans to join other women across the globe to celebrate the forthcoming International Women's Day on campus.

She said that the International Women's Day has been annually observed, globally, since 1911.

She, therefore, requested for the vice-chancellor's approval to allow this year's event to hold on campus so as to carry all women of the University along.

Becky listed some of the activities lined up to mark the event to include a peaceful walk, sensitisation campaign, football match between the SANU female and male staff, distribution of sanitary pads and mosquitoes treated nets to staff.

Also speaking, the Chairman of SSANU, FULafia Branch, Comrade Daniel D. Dajen, who accompanied the women group on the courtesy visit, congratulated the vice-chancellor for clocking one year in office, thanking him for the positive developments in FULafia SSANU.
